I love cozies。 I love Dana Mentink’s books。 I love ice cream。 This seems like a match made in heaven to me。 And it is!Trinidad is a character we can instantly relate to, even if we haven’t been in her specific situation。 We’ve all had people break our trust。 And we’ve all been on that precipice between taking a risk for something new or staying in our comfort zones。 Plus, she’s warm and insightful, witty and strong – despite all the craziness Upper Sprocket throws at her。 Swoony, big hearted, nut farmer Quinn and his brother Doug serve as anchors of goodness in the sea of suspects, and the Martin twins (Trinidad’s teenage employees) had me chuckling every time they’re on the scene。 Papa Luis is the mango topping on this delightful character sundae, and I just wanted to hug him all the time。But the cherry on top, the scene-stealer-extraordinaire, is Noodles, the service dog flunk-out。 If you’ve read any of Mentink’s books, you know that she can write an endearingly quirky dog like none other, and this senior pooch is no exception。 His earnest desire to help leads to some interesting choices of aid; in fact, Trinidad says it best when she observes that he would bring her “every last condiment in the fridge if he thought it would soothe her。” Oh how I adore rescue dogs… and Mentink dogs… and this one in particular。 If you read Pint of No Return for no other reason except to meet Noodles on the page, then you will certainly get your money’s worth。Bottom Line: Pint of No Return by Dana Mentink is zany and fun and curiously heartwarming, too。 The town of Upper Sprocket is cozy mystery gold, and Trinidad’s Shimmy and Shake shop will make you smile (and maybe even drool a little)。 The ‘good’ characters are insanely lovable, and I can’t wait to see where this series takes them next。 I loved putting on my amateur sleuth hat & following the well-crafted plot, and I admit that I was completely off base as to whodunit, so skillful were Mentink’s red herrings。 An adorable older dog, hilarious characters, quirky predicaments, a hint of romance, a clever mystery, sweet family ties, yummy ice cream, and a dash of Cuban heritage。 What more could you ask for?(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book。)first reviewed on Reading Is My SuperPower 。。。more

Trinidad Jones is just trying to start over。 When her ex-husband Gabe was sent to prison for embezzlement and fraud, she found out that he’d deeded his small hot dog shop to Trinidad。 Her plan to turn it into an ice cream shop specializing in monster milkshakes has the residents of Sprocket, Oregon buzzing about it already。 At least, Trinidad hopes that’s why they’re buzzing。 She was Gabe’s second ex-wife。 She had divorced him when she found out he was cheating on her with Juliette。 Juliette had Trinidad Jones is just trying to start over。 When her ex-husband Gabe was sent to prison for embezzlement and fraud, she found out that he’d deeded his small hot dog shop to Trinidad。 Her plan to turn it into an ice cream shop specializing in monster milkshakes has the residents of Sprocket, Oregon buzzing about it already。 At least, Trinidad hopes that’s why they’re buzzing。 She was Gabe’s second ex-wife。 She had divorced him when she found out he was cheating on her with Juliette。 Juliette had then ended up marrying him and quickly divorcing him。 But one neither one knew about his first wife, Bonnie, until his trial。 And now all three ex-wives are living in Sprocket。 Trinidad tried to keep her head down, keep to herself, and focus on opening her Shimmy and Shake Shop。 Just spend her energy creating delicacies like the Fourth of July Freakshake, a giant milkshake made with handmade ice cream, syrup, marshmallows, and a star-shaped brownie on top。 But when she had to get something out of her storage unit, Trinidad came face to face with the owner, Juliette。 Because it’s a small town, and because both women had shared some of the same unfortunate experiences in their marriages (and divorces), Juliette suggests that they become friends。 Trinidad agrees, since it would make things easier on everyone and because she hadn’t made any local friends yet, except for Noodles, her recently adopted Labrador who flunked out of service animal training but not before learning several great tricks。 But then Trinidad finds her shake shop neighbor, Kevin Heartly, owner of Popcorn Palace, murdered。 And the girlfriend he’d been cheating on is the prime suspect。 That girlfriend? None other than Juliette。 Trinidad doesn’t believe that Juliette killed anyone, but she knows from her days as a court stenographer that proving it is another story。 Although she’s busy getting ready for opening day at Shimmy and Shake, Trinidad is determined to find out who really killed Kevin。 And in order to do that, she’ll have to get to know some of the locals and figure out who can be trusted 。 。 。 and who is a murderer。 Pint of No Return is the first in a new series that features Trinidad and a host of fun characters in Oregon。 With mouth-watering descriptions of her ice cream concoctions and plenty of small town drama, author Dana Mentick brings Sprocket to life (and to murder) in sharp detail。 This is her first mystery series, but this first book shows a lot of promise, and I can’t wait to go back to Sprocket again soon。I really enjoyed Pint of No Return, but I do have to be honest about one thing。 Trinidad is a fun character, but she gets completely upstaged by her dog。 Noodles steals the show, from bringing her salad dressing when she’s feeling down to chasing after the loose chickens。 He may be the emotional support I need these days, which is surprising, because I thought that would come from her milkshakes。 Egalleys for Pint of No Return were provided by Poisoned Pen Press through NetGalley, with many thanks。 。。。more

I'm always up for a good cozy mystery, and I have not yet read a book from Dana Mentink that I didn't enjoy! This book was no exception。 It was fun, introduced characters and a town that I look forward to spending more time with, and had a mystery that kept me guessing。 I especially love the brothers, Quinn and Doug, that Dana introduced and look forward to seeing their relationship with Trinity grow。 Trinity's Cuban grandfather was also delightful! Pam,
Pint of No Return, first book in Dana Mentink’s fun new series provides a much needed dose of cheer and is the perfect poolside companion this summer。 Not only is Mentink’s sometimes quirky sense of humor evident on nearly every page but this cozy mystery has a plot with enough twists and turns to keep readers on their toes。What is not to love about this entertaining tale set in the unlikely small town of Upper Sprocket, Oregon? With a few zany characters, a lovable failure of a service dog Noodles, a feisty heroine and small town flavor, the pages of this book turned much too fast and I reached the end before I was ready。 Other characters such as nut farmer Quinn and his brother Doug add a more serious tone as well as the potential for a developing romance in future installments。I thoroughly enjoyed Pint of No Return as expected because I love the versatility of this author and this book did not disappoint。 From light-hearted romance to riveting suspense, Dana Mentink has my vote。I voluntarily reviewed a digital copy of this book provided by Celebrate Lit。 A favorable review was not required。 All views expressed are my own。 。。。more

I must admit that I did find the start of this story to be a bit on the slow side--- or at least slower than I typically prefer in a cozy, but it did pick up pace pretty quickly。 We were introduced to a wide variety of characters and lots of possible suspects to consider。 While I think sometimes there can be a little bit of a character overload in some books that make it harder to keep everyone straight, I actually found this one to be pretty easy to follow。 It kept me guessing and wanting to figure out whodunnit, all with the small town charm and some sweet treats。。。 a truly ideal cozy!If you're looking for your next cozy mystery series, grab a bowl on ice cream and check this one out! **I received a complimentary copy of this book for consideration。 All thoughts are my own。 。。。more
Melissa,
have read many of Dana’s Love Inspired Romantic Suspense novels so when I saw this cozy mystery up for review I had to jump on it。First of all, don’t read this when you are hungry because the descriptions of the ice cream Trinidad serves will have your mouth watering。Dana did a great job of developing this storyworld and the quirky characters that inhabit it。 The cute names of for all of the shops in Sproket made me smile too。I was also guessing until the end as to who was the murderer。 There w have read many of Dana’s Love Inspired Romantic Suspense novels so when I saw this cozy mystery up for review I had to jump on it。First of all, don’t read this when you are hungry because the descriptions of the ice cream Trinidad serves will have your mouth watering。Dana did a great job of developing this storyworld and the quirky characters that inhabit it。 The cute names of for all of the shops in Sproket made me smile too。I was also guessing until the end as to who was the murderer。 There were many possible suspects and Dana did a wonderful job of making them all seem possible but maybe not。If you like cozy mysteries I am sure you will enjoy this one。A copy of this book was given to me through Celebrate Lit。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

Trinidad Jones is starting over after divorce and opening her very own ice cream shop with the property left her in the settlement。 A fun, fresh small town cozy read, I loved that Trinidad is making friends and the best of her new beginnings。 Upper Sprocket is a welcoming place, and I adored the clever names of the local businesses and the backstories。Trinidad is a relatable heroine, with her own insecurities, but I loved how she follows her dream of opening and ice cream shop where she can be c Trinidad Jones is starting over after divorce and opening her very own ice cream shop with the property left her in the settlement。 A fun, fresh small town cozy read, I loved that Trinidad is making friends and the best of her new beginnings。 Upper Sprocket is a welcoming place, and I adored the clever names of the local businesses and the backstories。Trinidad is a relatable heroine, with her own insecurities, but I loved how she follows her dream of opening and ice cream shop where she can be creative。 And I admired her willingness to help and befriend her ex-husband's other ex-wife。Overall, there were many fun characters, and I liked that Trinidad offers to help out her new friends。 I was delighted that the plot kept me guessing throughout, and managed to surprise me in the end。 This book is clean in content, though it has Christian aspects to it, the themes are not as strong as your typical Christian fiction。 A great start to a fresh new series, and I can't wait to read more!I received a complimentary copy of this book。 Opinions expressed are completely my own。 。。。more
Deana Dick,
I an so excited to read a new book from this author。 She is one of my favorites and I can always count on her to deliver exciting stories。 Her new series is a cozy mystery set in a small town。 Opening up a new business for Trinidad is a challenge but I know with her skills she can do it。 The new business, The Shimmy and Shake Shop sounds like a wonderful place to enjoy flavors of ice cream that bring a sense of fun and nostalgia。 A very intriguing town brings Trinidad face to face with several e I an so excited to read a new book from this author。 She is one of my favorites and I can always count on her to deliver exciting stories。 Her new series is a cozy mystery set in a small town。 Opening up a new business for Trinidad is a challenge but I know with her skills she can do it。 The new business, The Shimmy and Shake Shop sounds like a wonderful place to enjoy flavors of ice cream that bring a sense of fun and nostalgia。 A very intriguing town brings Trinidad face to face with several ex-wives of her ex-husband。 I would be a little uncomfortable being around them。 Would you want to be friends with them? Sweet Trinidad seems to be genuinely wanting to get to know them better。 I loved that everyone seemed to know each other’s business in the town。 It didn’t take long for the news to break that a murder has been committed。 Poor Kevin the Popcorn King is found dead by none other than Trinidad。 Here is where we see the brilliant writing come into play。 The author has introduced us to several characters who could easily be suspects。 Who wanted Kevin dead and why? Did they not like popcorn and wanted to run Kevin out of town? The cast of characters in the book are funny, quirky and downright a gem to get to know。 Trinidad is determined to prove her friend innocent and runs into twists along the way。 Now I did try very hard to solve the case, but the author sure has some interesting roadblocks for me。 Get ready for a small town mystery with lots of fun and adventure, Noodles is perhaps my favorite character because after all having a cute, cuddly dog in the story brings happiness to everyone。 Grab a ice cream cone, get comfy and enjoy the newest book from an author who delivers a first rate mystery。 I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit。 The review is my own opinion。 。。。more
Carol Keen,
For starters, that title is so cool! I love the pun。 I also like this authors other stories, so I was interested to see how I'd like this one。 Frankly, I think I ate it up。 It's the first book in this series, it can make you crave more of this style of cozy。 Yes, it's sweet, and not just from ice cream。 There's a cast of fun characters, the main one being Trinidad。 She's been through a divorce, so she's starting over with the Shimmy and Shake shop。 I liked just about everything about this story。 For starters, that title is so cool!
